About:China Visa Application in UK

Transiting Shanghai from a cruise liner to fly back to UK

Transiting Shanghai from a cruise liner, staying in Shanghai for one night in a central hotel and then flying back to UK the following morning at 11.00am. Do the transit rules apply, i.e visa free entry for up to144 hours. We are both UK passport holders and permanent residents in the UK.

Would be interested on the answer to this. As my partner and I are flying to shanghai to get on a cruise ship and staying 2days in central shanghai before getting on the liner due to cheaper flights. As it's less then 144 hours would we need a visa?
