About:Policy for Foreigners with Immediate Family Living in China

My wife is a Chinese citizen living in mainland China.

She needs to send me an invitation letter for my Q1 visa application. Should it be written in English, Chinese or both? I am an American. I read somewhere that she needs to write two invitation letters. One addressed to the Chinese Embassy informing them that she has invited me and the other one addressed to me which is my invitation from her. Is that true?

Will I be able to book a one-way flight to China and allowed entrance? I plan on staying for at least a year and I'm not sure when I will return. I actually plan on getting a teaching job after I arrive to China and the mandatory Z type.

I already have a valid tourist L type. Could I possibly forego getting the Q1 type altogether and enter with my L type, and while I am there apply for the temporary residence permit?

Actually, you can find an invitation letter sample at this website. Just download it and fill it out f for your use.
As far as I know, an invitation letter to you is enough.
You can book a one-way ticket to China.
Once you get the Q1 type, your current L type will be voided automatically.

Hi Francis. Thank you. Yes, I have seen the sample letters. One is in English and the other is in Chinese. I guess the answer is that she needs to write the invitation letter in English and Chinese.

But do I need to even bother with getting the Q1 visa? Can I go to China with a one way ticket using my L visa, and still apply for the Temporary Residence Permit? It would save me money and time. Thank you.
