About:China Tourist Visa

I would like to go to Shanghai for 3 months on a tourist (L) type

Hi,
and stay with someone I know who is working there. Can I get a visa for the whole 3 months or would I have to exit and re-enter on the multiple entry visa (6 months).

Sofia, I cannot assure that. Usually, the duration of stay of a tourist L type is 30 days, but someone once got 60 days or 90 days. It mainly depends on the consular officers and the actual days you need. You can have a try first and see how long you can get. Also, you can apply for an extension after entering China if you don’t get 90 days.

Thank you for your response.
Also, my understanding is that you will need a return flight booked by the expiry of the 30 day L tourist visa, does this mean if you manage to get an extension while you are over there you would be wasting a flight?
