Arriving into Shanghai on cruise ship and departing same day

We arrive into Shanghai in April 2017 on a Princess cruise ship and depart 16 hours later. This is the only Chinese port we will visit. Can we take advantage of the 144 hour Visa-Free Transit policy? i.e. We do not need to apply for a visa to visit China.

Laz, you can take advantage of the 144-hour free transit policy as long as you arrive from and leave for different countries.
