About:Policy for Foreigners with Immediate Family Living in China

Hi. I'm an American living in the U.S. My wife is a Chinese citizen living on the mainland.

I have a tourist visa already. But I have sold my house here in the U.S. with the intention of living with my wife and teaching English in Chongqing.

I do not yet have a job offer to teach English but the school I enrolled my wife into has said they will grant me an interview after I complete my TEFL certification.

Would the school in China be able to apply for my Z type if I am living in China with an S type? Or would I need to return to the U.S. to receive the Z type? Should I postpone applying for the S type and instead wait for a job offer and the Z type? I will be 59 yo next month with plenty of savings to meet the financial responsibility requirements of an S type.

I wish to be with my wife as soon as possible, even though I don't have a job offer at this time. But then again, I don't want to ruin or complicate my ability or chances of receiving a job offer and the Z type.

Thank you,
Alan

Alan, if you go to China for spouse union purpose, you should apply for a Q type. After you enter China on a Q type and find job, it is possible for you to convert the Q type to a work Z type in China.

Hi Nicolas. Does the Invitation Letters need to be done in English or the Chinese language? Does my wife need to write two of them? One to me and one to the Chinese consulate? Thank you.
