144 Hour Visa Question for fly in cruise out

For a tourist (US citizen) flying into Shanghai and exiting 3 days later can one use the 144 hour free transit? The 72 hour free transit regulations state one must fly in and fly out or cruise in and cruise out. Not a mix of the two.

Does the 144 hour free transit have different rules. Can you fly in and take a cruise out of Shanghai. It does not say. If it is possible can one attaain these by notifying teh airline and obtaining on upon arrival.

Yes, the 144-hour free transit has different rules. You can fly in and leave Shanghai by a cruise. You can notify the airline before landing and then apply for the 144hrs free transit upon arrival.
