You need to apply for a tourist L type for that ahead of your trip. You should prepare those documents including the application form with a passport-sized color photo attached, your passport and its copy, proof of your financial support, your residence permit in US, as well as proof of transportation and accommodation arrangement. Next, submit the application to the embassy of China in US to apply for the L type.
