Leaving china on a connecting flight

I'm flying Cambodia to CTU (Chengdu) and then CTU to Canada on a connecting flight through PVG. I'm transiting through the same city CTU but I'm unsure about the outbound with the connecting flight through PVG

If your total layover time in Chengdu and Shanghai is not exceeding 24 hours, you can make use of the 24 hour direct transit, and then no visa will be needed. Otherwise, a transit G type or tourist L type is required.
