6-day visa exemption for tourists to pearl river delta

Question

I am flying into HK from the US.  My family would like to visit Guangzhou and the Pearl River Delta.  Would we be able to take advantage of the 6 days transit exemption for this?

If you fly to Guangzhou airport from HK, and stay in Guangzhou for 6 days, after, go to a third country or region instead of HK, you will be able to enjoy the 144 hour free transit. In this case, you can travel around the whole Guangdong province.
