About:Chinese Embassies and Consulates

Hi, I'm wondering can chinese student X type holder change visa into Q1 type in third country,

like Hongkong,Thailand?
I'm American citizen.

No, you cannot convert it in a third country. You can only apply for a new Q1 type in a third country or region.
Or you can try to convert the X type to Q1 type at the exit and entry administration of the local public security bureau within China.

Hi, so what you mean is before my student X type expire, I can go to Thailand or Hongkong to apply for family visit visa, dont need go back to America for application, is this correct? Thanks.

You can first try to convert the X type to Q1 type within China. If it can be done, you don’t need to go back to America or go to a third country or region to make the application.
