we are travelling by CEA from Sydney, 5:00am arriving, our next flight from the airport at around 11:40 pm, Please suggest how we can explore the city within this time, we do not want to book any conducted tou, nevertheless, we would like to explore the city and the surroundings by using taxis or inexpensive mode of transport, your suggestion will be highly appreciated.Mona

Stone Forest is one of the must see places for the first time travelers. From the airport, you can take subway line 6 to Kunming East Coach Station (30 minutes), then take regular bus to the Stone Forest (70 minutes). The whole journey takes around 1.5-2 hours, the suggested visiting time is 3-5 hours. Get back to the bus before 16:30 in the afternoon and then return to the airport. If you only want to do some travel in downtown area, you can take subway or airport shuttle line 1 to the city center and visit the Cuihu Park, Yuantong Hill, Black Dragon Pool and Jinma Biji Square to taste various local foods. Or you can take bus to visit the Western Hills and Dianchi Lake.
