trip from beijing to urumqi

what is the best way to use high speed train to urumqi if we landed in beijing

You could try this route:
1. Beijing to Xian, High speed
2. Xian to Baoji, High speed
3. Baoji to Lanzhou, Normal speed
4. Lanzhou to Urumqi, High speed
Or try:
1. Beijing to Xian, Hight speed
2. Xian to Lanzhou, Normal speed
3. Lanzhou to Urumqi, High speed

I found train No Z 96 departure from Beijing to urumqi lasting about 32 hours but I am not sure if it is direct travel or I have to change the train during the trip

Z96 is a direct train, but there are many stops on the journey.
