Do I need a Visa for a cruise stopover?

I will be on a cruise from Hong Kong with a 5 hour stop in Sanya, China. Do I need to arrange a visa before leaving Australia? We do not intend to leave the ship whilst in port.

If you're travelling with a Chinese tour group, you can stay in Sanya without a visa for 15 days. If not, then you may still qualify for the 24-hour transit if your cruise continues to a third country. If Sanya is your only port of call in China and you are not disembarking I doubt you even need to pass Chinese immigration, however.
