About:72-Hour Visa-Free Transit

Transit in Chengdu

Hi! I have a connection flight in Chengdu, the entire trip is Barcelona-Prague-Chengdu-Kuala Lumpur-Sydney.
The thing is that in Chengdu they asked me to take the luggage and make the check in again. So I guess in this case the 72 hour policy would apply? I would have to inform the airline during check in in Prague if I'm not mistaken.
I have an Italian passport, and this year I went to China on holidays and they didn't let me take the Chinese Visa with that one but with my Argentinian one. So I'm a little worried about that. Would you consider it's safer to ask for a visa to avoid any kind of issues?
Thanks in advance, I'm arranging everything and I'm worried about this issue.

All passengers in international transit are required to clear immigration and customs except in Beijing, and you'll be given a stay permit based on your length of stay. You don't have to do anything except having your onward ticket, and there's no need to inform the airline ahead of time. As for dual citizenship, both Italian and Argentinian passports permit 72-hour transit but you must use the same passport to pass through immigration when entering and leaving China.
