About:China Transit Visa

USA - Shanghai - Hong Kong

I am a US citizen and I will be traveling to Hong Kong. However, there is a layover in Shanghai for 2 hrs. Is HK considered a third country since it is a different region? Will we qualify for the visa free travel since we will be there less than 24hrs?

Micah, when speaking of the free transit policy, HK is regarded as a third region. Thus, you qualify for the 24 hour direct transit in Shanghai.
