British national working in Japan wanting to travel to shanghai

Hello, I am a British national working in Japan travelling to China for Christmas for nine days. Do I need a visa just for this period? I've never got one for a holiday before. If so, what documents do I need to give the embassy?

Nick, you need to apply for one. You may need to submit the following documents, including your passport, a photocopy of your passport's info page, a fully filled-out application form with your recent photo on the first page, the original and photocopy of your residence card, and a copy of round-trip tickets and hotel reservations. If you book a tour from a travel agency, the round-trip tickets and hotel bookings are not required. Instead, you need to provide a tour itinerary provided by the agency.
