About:China Visa Application in UK

Flying to Singapore from the UK, then on cruise,

stop two days (one night on ship) in Hong Kong, leave ship in Shanghai and stay there 3 days then fly to UK via Dubai. Do I need visa?

Leonard, no, you don’t need it because you can enjoy the 144 hour free transit in Shanghai.

Thank you for your answer.
A company told me that the 144 hours is discretionary and we might not be allowed into Shanghai without an entry permit. Is this true or is the company casting doubt because they want my money?

In principle, you can enjoy the 144 hour free transit, but I cannot assure what may happen in real practice.

Think I'm on same cruise , Majestic 18th June?, believe we have another "day "in China day 9 Xiamen and Shanghai at end plus 2/3 days , have been advised NEED visa.
