About:240-Hour Visa-Free Transit

We fly from UK to hong kong (no visa requirements) then pick up a cruise which ends in Shanghai.

We stay 1 night before flying back to the UK.
Does the 144 visa apply here?

Gary, if you travel like that, you can enjoy the 24 hour direct transit in Shanghai.
