About:72-Hour Visa-Free Transit FAQ

Do I need Visa if I am Indonesian who have to wait for a 20 hours connecting flight in Xiamen?

My family & I bought Xiamen Airlines tickets from Jakarta to Seattle (USA). The route will be Jakarta - Xiamen - Shenzhen - Seattle. I just realized that we have to wait for a connecting flight in Xiamen around 20 hours. The same situation will occur during our return flight (from Seattle to Jakarta with Xiamen Airlines).

- As Indionesian, do we need to apply for an entry permit if we want to take a rest in a hotel?
- Can we just stay in the airport waiting for the connecting flight?

Felicia, if your total layover time in Xiamen and Shenzhen is less than 24 hours each time, you can enjoy the 24 hour direct transit. In this case, no entry permit will be needed. If you want to stay at a hotel, you just need to apply for a free temporary stay permit at the airport. Of course, you can also just stay at the airport and wait for the connecting flight.

I bought my mother a ticket from Jakarta-Xiamen-Shenzhen-Seattle, like Felicia. But she was held at the airport and asked for PRC visa by the people at Jakarta airport this morning. They insists that a PRC visa is required. I am so confused. HELP.

The staff at Jakarta are correct. She needs a PRC visa, because ALL passengers in transit at Shenzhen are required to hold a visa.
