About:China Visa

Shanghai and Beijing , 144 hour rule and 72 hour rule

Hello,
I am an airline employee traveling with my family, 3 of us total. We wanted to enter China in Shanghai stay for 4days in Shanghai, then overnight train to Beijing where we will stay for 72 hours, exit China from Beijing-
Do we need visas or can we use the 144 hour rule and 72 rule for each city?

Cheryi, no, you won’t be able to use the 144 hour free transit and 72 hour free transit if you travel like that. You need to apply for a tourist L type entry permit ahead of your trip.
