About:Visa Policy of China

I am british and want to stay in shanghai for one day on a return ticket from Kazakhstan

Do I qualify for the 72 hour stopover on a return ticket?

Paul, if you mean you will fly from Kazakhstan to Shanghai and then back to Kazakhstan, I'm afraid you don't qualify for the 72hrs free transit policy. But if you stay for less than 24 hours and don't leave the transit zone, you may not need the entry permit.

Thanks, but I want to go into the city to sign some legal documents so I will have to go to Astana to get my visa I think.
