About:China Visa

I have a US passport and planning to go on a precruise stay for 2 days in Shanghai

This is the itinerary:
From the Philippines flying to Shanghai (2 days) - Cruise (5 days, Shanghai/2 ports in Japan/Shanghai) - Shanghai (1 day) then fly home. Will the 144 hr free transit apply? Also, will our companions holding Philippine passports have to get Chinese visas?

Beth, if your layover time in Shanghai is less than 144 hours when you fly there for the first time, you can enjoy the 144 hour free transit there. When you return to Shanghai from Japan, you can enjoy the 24 hour direct transit there.
Your Philippines companions have to apply for Chinese entry permit and they need to get double entries.
