About:240-Hour Visa-Free Transit

visa request needed for 2day stay in shanghai?

i travel with italian passport - and have a return ticket: Milan-Shanghai- ( return is shanghai-milan) I stay less than 72 hours in shanghai.
My question: Falls this Shanghai 2 night stay under the "Transit" definition or not?
Should I or not ask for an entry permit?

Sofia, because you will fly back to Milan after staying in Shanghai, your stopover in Shanghai won’t be a transit. In this case, you cannot enjoy the 72 hour free transit there. You need to apply for a tourist entry permit in advance.
Or you can travel like Milan-Shanghai-HK-Milan, in this case, you will be eligible for the 72 hour free transit in Shanghai.

Thanks for prompt reply isabel. If i have following flight schedule: onward flight bologna - shanghai with flight vehicle change in amsterdam . Return flight is : shanghai - bologna with flight vehicle change in paris . Do i need a visa or not. Shanghai is always reason if this journey, (i don t stay ( go through customs i mean) nor in amsterdam, nor in paris .
