About:72-Hour Visa-Free Transit FAQ

Visit Hong Kong from Guangzhou during 72 hour stop over.

We are husband & wife Australian citizens with a son and daughter-in-law about to move to Hong Kong to work. We intend travelling with China Southern from Brisbane - Guangzhou - Paris and return about 5 weeks later in June 2017. On both stop overs in Guangzhou we would like to take the 72 hours and visit our relatives in Hong Kong by train. Is that permissible? If not, can you advise an alternative?
kind regards

Graeme, you mean you will travel like Brisbane – Guangzhou-HK-Guangzhou- Paris-Guangzhou-HK-Guangzhou-Brisbane? Actually, if you travel like that by flights all the way, and your layover time in Guangzhou is less than 72 hours each time, you can enjoy the 72 hour free transit in Guangzhou each time. If you want to take train to HK from Guangzhou, you won’t be able to use the 72 hour free transit, but if your layover time in Guangzhou is less than 24 hours when you travel by train, you will be able to enjoy the 24 hour direct transit. No entry permit will be needed either then.
