72 hour transit without visa authority

Can my husband and I use the 72 hour free transit if we fly into Shanghai stay for three nights leave before the 72 hours is up fly to Tokyo and then on the way back to the U.K we have a one hour stopover in Shanghai. With us having two entries into Shanghai will this invalidate the rules. Thanks
