About:72-Hour Visa-Free Transit

Flying through Guangzhou - 48hrs in Hong Kong?

I'm Australian, flying Kathmandu - Guangzhou - Brisbane. Can I leave Guangzhou airport and travel to Hong Kong for a couple of days before heading back to Guangzhou airport for my flight home to Brisbane?

Sure you can but it´s not possible to use the 72h twov.

The twov is just valid in Guangdong province and HongKong is not a part of this province.
Furthermore you´re leaving the PR China if you go to HongKong.
So you need a double entry tourist L type to do the trip.

Thank you, I had actually asked the Chinese consulate and they told me I could apply it. I have felt uneasy about it, it doesn't seem clear to me on their website. I'll have to go see them on Monday
