Visit Kunming, Dali, Lijiang and Shangrila end Nov/early Dec for 10 days

Our family of 3 (including our 13yr old boy) from Malaysia will be visiting Kunming from 24 Nov to 3 Dec.
We very much likes to visit Kunming, Dali, Lijiang and Shangrila. Would like some help in planning the itinerary on the interesting places to visit. Should we take public transportation or rent a car with driver (if charges not expensive) We can understand Mandarin. During this time, what clothing should we bring. Thanks for your assistance.

It is much easier for you to travel around if you speak Mandarin. There are public transport between each place, you may also charter a car if needed, but the price would be higher. For your reference, the must-see site in Kunming is Stone Forest, one day is enough for Kunming visit, take bus, train or flight to Dali and visit Dali Old Town, Erhai Lake and Three Pagoda, then head to Lijiang by bus or train, visit Lijiang Old Town, Jade Dragon Snow Mountain and other places if you are interested. From Lijiang, you can take bus to Shangri-la, visit Tiger Leaping Gorge if time permits, then visit the Songzanlin Temple and Potatso National Park. Most of the hotels offer car rental service, you may check with your hotels upon arrival. As for the weather, it is a bit cold in early December and the temperature difference between day and night can be above 10°C/50°F, so long-sleeved T-shirts, sweaters, jacket and a down coat are needed during that time. Shangri-la is colder. Do not forget to take sunglasses and sun block to protect you from the sunlight.
