About:240-Hour Visa-Free Transit

nyc-shanghai-hong kong

i am planning a trip and i am confused as to when the clock starts ticking on the 6 day visa free travel for shanghai. does the clock start at the time i arrive in shanghai or does it start at 12:01 the following day.
