About:China Visa

US - PVG - HKG - PVG - US

So I have one RT ticket from the US to Shanghai with four days between arrival and departure. Sandwiched in the middle of that trip is another round trip ticket to Hong Kong. Is this scenario covered by the transit visa?

Yes, I think both your layovers in Shanghai are covered by the 144-hour visa-free transit policy. To make it sure, you can contact the embassy to confirm this.
