About:72-Hour Visa-Free Transit

Travel from Australia to Toronto through Shanghai with a 16 hour layover.

Do we need to do anything re a visa? Do we need to clear customs to get the 72 hour free transit?

KJ, you are eligible for the 24 hour direct transit, so you don’t need to apply for a visa. You don’t need to clear customs to get 72 hour free transit because you just stop there 16 hours, you may be given a 24 hour direct transit.
