About:Hong Kong MTR Tickets & Fares

We are a family of 5 adults travelling to Hong Kong at the end of nov.

I see the answers anggia may suit, but not quite sure. We will be there for 8 days, so need transport to/from the airport to Kowloon and then to get around.
As you can imagine, when you buy 5 tickets for anything its expensive. Often taxi becomes a cheaper way to get around and is more convenient.
or
Is buying the Octopus card simply going to be more convenient?
What is the cost for these and do you just top up when you need?

One taxi can hold five passengers at most, so taking taxis may be convenient for you. But it may not be the most economical way. For instance, it costs around HKD 240 to Tsim Sha Tsui from HKIA by taxi, and it costs HKD 33 per person by bus line A21. Public transport is rather convenient in HK, so you can take it into account.

Yes! Standard Octopus Card is a nice choice for you. Each adult pays HKD 50 as the deposit, and HKD 100 as the stored value. Each child aged 3 to 11 pay HKD 50 as the deposit, and HKD 20 as the stored value. You can top it up when you need. :)

Thanks Jack, I see the MTR would cost about 300 (60 x 5), so the taxi may be a bit cheaper than this. We don't need to take a bus though, as I think lugging around all our luggage will not be easy.
Just as long as the taxi can take 5 people with luggage. Do they have vans/7 or seater taxis?
