Me and my daughter have Australian passport but my wife has got Indian passport but Australian permanent residency permit.
does anyone of use need any sort of entry permit for our short stay
we are planning to use hotel provided by airlines during our short stay
if we need entry permit, can I know what type do we need?

Sudhir, if you will fly to a third country or region after stopping in Guangzhou for less than 24 hours, you can use the 24 hour direct transit in Guangzhou. In this case, no entry permit is needed.
You can apply for a free temporary stay permit at the immigration office after arrival and then you can go to stay at the hotel.
