raleigh, nc to manila, pi w/ 72 hr stop in guangzhou

Question

We'll be stopping to see family in Guangzhou, so not staying in a hotel. Am I correct in assuming we arrive in the Guangzhou (CAN) airport, do the transit permit at the airport, go to my family's home and just return to the same airport within 72 hours?

You can enjoy the 72 hour free transit in Guangzhou. After arrival at the airport, you can apply for the free transit at the transit counter. After that, you can go to your family’s home, but you need to register your stay at the police station within 24 hours.
