UK Citizen travelling for less than 15 days doesn't need a visa

As a UK citizen travelling for less than 15 days i have read that i don't need an entry permit. So is it possible to get return train tickets with no entry permit at all or do i need to get an entry permit in order to use the trains?
Thank you

Fraser, do you mean the 15-day VOA to Hainan? If yes, you need to get an entry permit, but you can get it after arrival and no need to apply in advance. After you get the VOA, you can get return train tickets.
