About:72-Hour Visa-Free Transit FAQ

I am an American citizen and have a 15 hour layover in Chengdu

and then another 2 hour layover in Nanjing. I will fly to USA from Nanjing.

I am on China Eastern Airlines and they will not check my bags all the way through. I need to collect my bag, and then check-in for my flight from Chengdu to Nanjing.

1) Will I need a transit visa in Chengdu or will I need another kind of visa since I have to technically exit the airport and re-enter?

Alex, as your total layover is less than 24 hours, you qualify for the 24-hour free transit policy, so I think the transit permit is not required.
