Question

Hi, I am Sri Lankan. I stamped S1 type from Saudi Arabia when I was working there. I didn't enter the PRC yet from S1. it is available to go until next month. Now I got scholarship and X1 type documents. Now my purpose is studying. So do I need to apply X1 type or can I enter with S1 type transfer permanent residence into study type? Is it possible within China?

Sam, if your S1 type is still valid, you can use it to enter PRC; and it’s possible for you to change the S1 type to X1 type after you enter PRC. But if possible, you are advised to apply for a student X1 type in the first place and then enter PRC. Just to be safe.
