About:144-Hour Visa-Free Transit

We are flying from USA to Tokyo, boarding a cruise ship for 11 days,

and ending the cruise in Shanghai. We will be going directly from the ship to Shanghai airport, and then fly back to the USA. Do we need a visa, or do we qualify under the 44 hour rule

Janice, you are eligible for the 144 hour free transit in Shanghai as long as your layover in Shanghai is less than 144 hours.
