About:Marriage Registration in China

Registering marriage in China on a short visit

I am a Singaporean girl dating a Mainland Chinese guy and he wants me to go over to his hometown in Anhui Fengyang next month in August to get married. I will be in PRC for 15 days for a short visit. I would be flying Shanghai first to do a statutory declaring of my marriage status at the Singapore Consulate-General. I read that I would need a residence permit for foreigners issued by the local police department or identification certificate issued by foreign affairs department or entry permit for foreigners who come to PRC for a short stay. I think I would be better off getting an identification certificate or entry permit because I do not have any job position in PRC in order for me to get the residence permit. How do I get the entry permit? Can anyone advise?

Piku, as far as I know, you don’t need to get a residence permit to register your marriage in PRC.
You can just take your passport to the consulate general of Singapore to do the statutory declaration.
When you register your marriage, you just need to provide your passport, single status certificate and valid registration form of temporary residence which you can get at the police station.

Wow thank you so much Liz! I was at such a lost, I don't know if I need to book an appointment if I were to get an entry permit at the Foreign Affairs office. I emailed the office but no replies. The Embassy and CVASC in Singapore didn't bother to help in answering my queries either. They played "Tai Chi" and pushed everything to the local marriage bureau and the Shanghai Foreign Affairs office. I am so grateful for the information now I can rest my worries and concentrate on getting my document legalised by the Singapore MFA and the China Visa centre. Thank you once again.
