About:240-Hour Visa-Free Transit

144h without further boarding card

Hi, we travel from Tokyo Narita over Shanghai to Prague and have a stay at Shanghai Airport for about 26h in which we would like to stay in the city. The problem is that we didn't got our second boarding card at Prague and had to check in in Shanghai again when travelling here last week, so I assume that when we are now travelling back, we are not able to check in in Tokyo for the flight between Shanghai and Prague.. so we won't have an ongoing flight ticket with seats when arriving in Shanghai. What can we do?

Natalie, if you want to use the free transit in Shanghai, the ongoing flight ticket with confirmed seat is needed. If you can provide the ticket, and when you check in, you will know the seat. In this case, you can still use the free transit.

Thanks. Is it possible that we can check in at Shanghai at the connecting-flight-desk 26h before our flight departures?

Sorry for asking one more question: but then how can people use 144h free transit when its only possible to check in one day before departure? 144h are about 6 days which means people must have their departure ticket for the ongoing flight already 6 days before departure. I don't get this...
