Australian passport holder wanting to travel to dongguan can I get voa

I am Australian passport holder living in London. Will be travelling with partner(uk passport holder) to Hong Kong soon and would like to go to China with him while he works in dongguan region for a few days. I will not be working. Intend to travel from Hong Kong to dongguan in car. Do I need a visa? Can I get it at border? Very confused and short on time. Thanks for any advice.
