Who usually pays for the R visa?

Hello,

My current R type is due for renewal and my employer has demanded that in future I should bear the costs for the renewal procedure. Previously the employer had paid for the entire application process for the first one including agent fees. My employer is an international company with a China outpost. I assume that policies differ from company to company, but what is the usual or majority? Employee pays or employer pays?
Thanks for your help.

Tom, when you renew your residence permit, you need to pay for it by yourself.
