Temporary residence permit application from Visa

Hi, I will be going to China to live with my boyfriend and start study (registration date 1st of September). I will already arrive 6th of August in PRC, so that I can be with my boyfriend. Knowing at registration date I am able to apply for a the eventual (study) residence permit. Will this be ok? Or do I need to get my entry permit first extended to allow the Exit- Entry office more time for processing my conversion request? I have already changed my flight date into PRC with one week. Thanks for your reply.

Xander, you should contact with the school and confirm if you can get the relevant materials for residence permit in advance. If yes, you can apply for it when you arrive on 6th August. If not, I’m afraid you cannot apply for the residence permit in time.

Hi Alex,

Thank you very much. I will double check with the university. On the study visa I have it says I need to apply for a residence permit within 30 days from arrival in China. Therefore I believe I should have enough time. For the time I am in China on the X visa, I will request the usual temporary residence document (like tourists have to do), confirming type of residence/ where to stay etc. According to the ambassy students are alllowed to come to China a couple of weeks in advance of their study to prepare/ travel. My Chinese friend will accompany me to the nearest police station for translations etc.
