How can I book two hard sleeper/ soft sleeper beds in the same compartment?

Hello!

I will be travelling around China with my girlfriend and I was wondering how I can make sure that our beds will be in the same compartment? Will the seat/bed number be randomly assigned when I book online or can I choose two adjacend seats when I go to the station to pick them up?
