Transport mode for chengdu, xian and shanghai

I am planning to visit chengdu, Xian and Shanghai end of this month if not early August.
Chengdu will be my first stop and I will end my tour in Shanghai. What is the best mode of transport to travel from Chengdu to Xian then to Shanghai.
I am planning to stay in China for about 8 to 10 days.

You can take flight or train from Chengdu to Xian. As for the transport of Xian to Shanghai, you may take bullet train D308 2035/0747+1 or flight. The train ride takes around 11 hours and the flight takes about 2 hours.
