About:Yungang Grottoes

Visiting Yungang grottoes on one's own

Hey :)
I'd like to know what is the best way for me to visit all the caves (or most of them, anyway) on my own, without an agency. Are they close to one another/within a walking distance?
(p.s.: how much is it to hire a car, driver included?)
Thanks!

Yes, the caves are close to one another. You can walk and visit easily. From the downtown of Datong, the fee of hiring a car with a driver to Yungang would be less than 100 yuan (for the single way).

You can take Express Tourist Bus Line 603 from many spots, including Datong Railway Station, Yuexiuyuan Community, Yingze Street, etc. The buses are available from 7:00 to 18:00, and the trip takes 40 to 50 minutes. The fare is CNY 3.

Kevin, I don't understand which bus I have to take to arrive to caves. Number 4 from the station or the number 603?

So does this mean you need to transfer to another bus like someone above suggested? Or does bus 603 go straight to the caves?

Hi, dear! You needn't transfer to another bus. Tourist bus line 603 goes straight to the caves. Don't worry! :)
