About:Shanghai Pudong Airport

Hi, we will be arriving Pudong airport terminal 1 from Dubai on our way to Los Angeles.

Our flight arrives at 12:15 pm and we leave for LAX again at 9 pm. We arrive in Terminal 1 and we also depart from Terminal 1 on China Eastern airlines.

I would like to know if there is a hotel within the airport which we can take a hotel to take a shower and rest for 3-4 hours before going for the next flight to LAX at 9 pm.
Also, I have heard that the transfer/immigration/security check-in is very bad at the airport and takes very long time to clear. Is that true? If so, what is the minimum time that we should do our check-in again. Also, since we booked our flights on China Eastern from Dubai to LA as one ticket, do we have to collect our luggage, or will it be checked throughout and we dont have to collect?

Yes! You can stay at Dazhong Airport Hotel at No. 6001, Yinbin Avenue, Pudong New District. It lies between T1 and T2. A standard room costs around CNY 500-600. You can book a room by dialing 86-021-38799999.

Actually, it is not true. Here are the transfer procedures: Confirm Onward Boarding Pass - Check in- Quarantine Inspection- Immigration Inspection- Security Check- Go to International Concourse- Waiting for boarding. You may leave the hotel around 2 hours in advance. You needn't claim the luggage. It can be delivered to the final destination.

Thanks Jack for the prompt answer. Appreciate your answers to my queries. Just one more question. Can we take a small tour of lets say 4 hours or so, just to see a bit of surrounding nice area worth visiting? If so, where do you recommend we should go?

Also, if we were to go out of the airport to hotel/tour, do we still have to go through the whole procedure as listed above and if so, is it easy and worth doing it?

Well, according to your limited stopover, you are suggested to stay at the airport. Find a hotel and take some rest. There are also some stores and nice local restaurants in terminal buildings. You can taste the local snacks and buy some meaningful souvenirs.

Our stay at the airport is for 8 hours 30 minutes.
Do you think that we should only at hotel during that time?

If you still wanna tour around downtown area, you can take the maglev train to Longyang Road first. Then transfer to subway line 2 to People's Square, Nanjing Road and Bund Area. Perhaps you don't have enough time to cover many scenic areas because you need to go back to PVG at least 2 hours in advance.
