Dear Andrew, you needn't go through Immigration Inspection if the layover is within 24h. Here are the procedures: Flight Arrival- Transfer Procedures- have your boarding pass stamped (within 10 seconds) - Security Check- Customs Inspection- Waiting for Boarding. There are clear English guiding signs for your convenience. Take it easy! :)

My luggage should be checked through to BKK (without having to claim it and go through custom) even though it's a different airline, correct?

Yes, you don't need to collect the luggage and reclaim them at PEK. :)
