About:China Student Visa

x visa for people age 60 + ?

Hi my googling suggests china bans people over age 60 from studying Chinese on X1 or X2 types. I'm 63. Canadian. I'd like to spend 6 to 12 months in beijing. An undemanding language course that meets the government minimum hour requirements, gives me basic situational language skills and time to see china would be ideal. I am retired and have no intention of working, getting any more degrees or an HSK level. Is this possible or do I have to go to taiwan?

There is no such kind of regulation in the relevant policy, so you can probably apply for the student X type.
But if you cannot get it, you can apply for an F type to attend the language course. In this way, you don’t need to go to Taiwan.

Xiexie Claire. Yes it seems that it's possible to get the visa. The problem is that the universities mindlessly apply their 18-60 rule for degree programmes to non-degree income-producing language courses. Their loss. Some of the reputable private language schools fill this gap. For a price.

As for the X visa the government doesn't seem to be the problem. They look more at the visa sponsor i. e. language school or university.

I learned this from replies I received from private language schools.
