About:72-Hour Visa-Free Transit

Do I need a visa if I'm not technically in transit?

I want to visit Beijing for 2-3 days (I'll be coming from Hong Kong, and going to Japan).

Can I fly into Hong Kong and utilise the free transit? Or does my onward flight to Japan have to have an official stop over in Hong Kong in it?

Thanks

72 hours transit-visa free applied on your from Hong Kong to Beijing to Japan, but it does not applies to flight from Hong Kong to Beijing to Hong Kong to Japan. technically, the country onward to cannot same as where you come from. Since Hong Kong has independent immigration from China, so treat it as a fake country.
