is it possible for a friend in BJ to book a ticket for me, and then I pick it up  myself when I arrive ten days before the trip?

If you refer to the international trip, I guess you may need to show the passport. Your friend may have a try with your passport copy to see if possible. There are only paper ticket type so your friend should get paper one directly. If you refer to domestic routes, you can book it online and collect it at railway station after your arrival.
